Mac and the other guy (the big one)
by: Anonymous

Let me add a few additional comments. First Mac's are EXPENSIVE. A comparable Lenevo, Acer, or Asus (HP is not recommended by the way) in terms of disk size, response time (memory and cpu) would be less than half the cost. The second issue is all laptops are expensive to repair if you have a major problem and it's out of warranty. The third problem is software applications and communication (inter species). The world of
Windows (not thanks to Microsoft) has a lot more "stuff" for doing almost anything than the world of Mac. In terms of communicating (inter everything) a Windows PC is much better (if you need to communicate) but this is not as significant as it once was and more "communication" software is becoming available all the time. Next....a desktop is half the cost of a laptop (Windows) so unless you really have to lug a laptop around a desktop is a better deal price wise.......AND you can go with a large monitor (that would cost you your first born if you were to get a laptop model with a large screen). The best option, if you have to have one for business or travel is think about what you do with it and then think.....net book or refurbished laptop, $200-$300 (and the laptop if built within the last 4-5 years will be more than adequate unless you are either a power user - 15 applications open at one time), or need it for rocket science work, should be more than adequate)....and then buy a desktop as well (newish but your don't really need anything more than an 80 GB drive, a moderate price CPU (AMD dual core) and 2 GB of memory (not what the stores sell you as they are filled with the biggest and fastest components around WHICH YOU DO NOT NEED AND WILL MAKE NO DIFFERENCE IN RESPONSE TIME FOR THE NORMAL HUMAN BEING. Also a real keyboard (as opposed to a laptop keyboard) is "nicer", particularly for big fingers.

End of sermon.......

Mac Vs PC and IBM compatible computers
by: Teej

I agree about Mac users loving ONLY Macs, however I do have a best friend who owns both computers and loves them equally. Now she might be the ONLY person in the world though! :-)

But all of my other friends who own Macs swear by them and won't touch PC's.

I own 3 PCs one IBM-compatible Laptop (all HP) and I also own a Macbook Laptop. It's beautiful, but I don't like it! Sometimes there's a feature or two that I really love on it, but don't need it or whatever... Also the things that it's very intuitive on doesn't help what I need, and the things that I NEED it to be more intuitive on - it isn't.

I use my Mac sometimes for conferencing with clients when they need it for their own Macs, but other than that, I turn to my desktop and/or HP laptop.

I do love my new iPhone though, an Apple product! Might even take a look at the iSlate in the next 6 months.

Thanks for helping the other person out, now I don't feel so bad for disliking my beautiful Mac. :-)

I appreciate your response. It was very helpful and informative. I will let my husband read it too. I trust it will help us make a decision.
