The Girlfriend's Computer Build

My girlfriend's computer recently died and she decided that instead of trying to troubleshoot and figure out what happened, she would just upgrade completely. She didn't want to have to upgrade again for at least a few years and she wanted it to play any of the new games coming out without any problems.

I was put in charge of designing and building the computer for her, and it was almost headache free. I was very impressed by the Antec case we bought, and the Asus motherboard we put in it was a great match.

There were a few issues with screws not threading properly into the spacers for the motherboard, but with a different type of screw that was no longer an issue. The CPU installed more easily than I have ever seen thanks to the new socket AM3 technology. RAM and video card both installed seamlessly with no space problems due to the size of the case. Hard drive and DVD drive installation was actually very difficult because of the case's design, forcing me to remove the front panel and slide the drive bays out the front. Once this was tackled however, the SATA connectors were easily set up and the components were all there.

Hooking up power to everything took longer than getting everything installed, but Asus once again gave great motherboard documentation and even this was a breeze.

With the build complete, I installed the new Windows 7, and to my surprise it recognized everything completely and we were ready to go. It's been up for close to a month now and we haven't had a single problem yet!
