Simply change the driver to enable reading of DVD+R

Is it possible for a CD/DVD-R drive read a DVD+R disc simply by changing the driver?

Answer

Unfortunately, the answer I must give you is a no. The reading capability of the drive is determined by hardware not software. Although most of the computer DVD drives on the market support both formats, some of them do not. If you have a drive that only works with DVD-R media, you'll have to buy that format of disk.
