May 2011 Computer Kit Questions
Thanks for this month’s kit looks very interesting. If you don’t mind I have a couple of questions. First do I buy the parts for the kit from you or where do you recommend me picking them up? Secondly in regards to software what do you recommend? Thirdly you called it a gaming computer, I am assuming then that the characteristics of a designing computer and a gaming computer are more or less interchangeable?

Currently, I am working on a deal with a supplier so you can buy your computer kits directly from me for a great price, but since at this time I don't have this set up, head to NCIX.com or
Tigerdirect
both will ship to Canada and the US and have great service. I like NCIX as my primary supplier currently, but since they don't offer Ultra power supplies, I still get them from
Tigerdirect
.
For operating system, this build was designed for Windows 7 64bit. The main difference in a gaming computer is the video card. If you don't plan on doing any gaming pick something that's cheaper, you don't need the extra horsepower here.
You raise a great question about gaming computers, what's the main difference. Unfortunately it's a bit of a loaded question. There are a several. Depending on budget, every component can change. The most common differences in order from my perspective are, video card, CPU, RAM, hard drive, motherboard, power supply, CPU cooler, and lastly the case. Generally speaking, almost all the kits you'll find on the site will play games if you add or upgrade the video card. As a rule, if it games, it will usually do anything else you want it to.
