I Repaired Them So I Tried To Build One

Several months ago I decided that rather than buying a new high end desktop PC I would create my own from scratch. I was able to save several hundred dollars this way and it proved to be even easier than I had hoped.

I have considerable experience repairing computers and knew exactly what features and performance I wanted from my computer. Knowing exactly what you want before you start is very important, here are a wide variety of stores and websites offering thousands of parts. Even with a good idea of what I wanted the hardest part for me was narrowing down which parts I wanted to buy from all of the choices. If I had started without a clear idea of what I wanted I would have quickly been overwhelmed.

Choosing the motherboard was the hardest step for me, it was the part that I knew the least about and is the foundation of the rest of the computer. The motherboard determined what RAM, processors and graphics cards I would be able to get.

Installing the processors was the most technically difficult part of the assembly, the rest of the parts all screw, plug or snap into place intuitively and without much difficulty. The most enjoyable part of the assembly was customizing my case, I installed neon and transparent plastic panels in the case, giving the computer a "futuristic" look. I had a lot of fun making my own computer, when it's time to replace this one I will definitely do it again.
