March 2010 Cheap Computer Kit

Let's build a cheap computer.  We'll be cutting on some of my favorite brand names to really work on the cheap.  At the same time, we still want to build a good computer.  To do this, I will start with a barebone kit from a vendor that will help keep the cost to a minimum.

This is not designed to be a gaming machine or run 3d applications.  That being said, it will still be a fast reliable machine when it comes to checking email, downloading your favorite song, or just simply surfing the net.

If you've never built a computer before and just need a computer for some simple tasks, this would be a great option.  Pick out a monitor, keyboard and mouse to make the whole thing complete.

This kit at the time of this writing was priced at under $260.

Barebone Kit - This includes the motherboard, computer case, cpu, cpu cooler, RAM, on board sound, video, and even a power supply.

We just need a hard drive and a dvd drive to be able to make it work.

Hard Drive - Western Digital WD1600AAJS Caviar Blue Hard Drive

DVD Rom - Lite-On SA22518X DVD Drive - 18x DVD-ROM, 48x CD-ROM, SATA icon
