Can You Build A Laptop Computer?

I use my laptop almost exclusively for both business and personal needs. We have a desktop, but it's so old it's useless. I've been informed I'll have to replace my laptop within a year. It is a Dell Inspiron 1150.

I was just wondering, is it possible and cost effective to build a laptop, or can you only build desk top computers?

Answer

You can build your own laptops as well. The concept is exactly the same as building a desktop computer. Just smaller parts in a smaller container.

That being said, parts availability is much lower. You will have a much tougher time getting the components that you want. The end result will most likely be larger than a unit that comes put together for you.

If you are considering a laptop, because of availability of parts and this also effecting the warranty should anything break, I actually recommend buying laptops pre-built. You will end up getting more options and getting better warranty service in the end.

To get the best laptop, make sure you read the reviews, don't just buy the first thing you see. Leaning towards support will be the best way to go. Laptops will generally have more issues than desktops, so make sure you can get it fixed when something does happen.
