Building your own computer is an experience in itself. I have built quite a number of computers in 4 years since what started as curiosity.
The very first computer that I built was out of my pocket money when I was in college, so $500 was big money then, by the time I was done it gave me so much pleasure to see the computer run, run exactly the way I wanted it to.
Reading about computer parts and deciding on what to assemble took quite a bit of time. Once I was done getting all the hardware, which was still the easy part, it came time to put all the parts together, which for me was the tough part since I was very new to assembling hardware.
I couldn't afford to mess up since it was my savings from close to a year. I was almost about to fry the motherboard when one of my tech friends helped me out and pointed the mistake that I was about to make! apart from that hiccup everything else was a breeze, and the computer was up and running in 2hours.
I am thoroughly satisfied with that build, the computer is still running fine without any hardware failures! Its gone through two upgrades and I still use it as my backup system.
Since my first build turned out to be a great success, I ended up building computers for two of my friends.
The confidence that my first build has given me was a very constructive experience. I have gone on to procure around 25 computers for a small business and has been assembled by me and all have turned out to be very stable without any major hardware failures.
Overcoming your initial fears and inhibitions is the most important thing in no matter what you start. Computer building in my case has been the most productive experience of them all.
