Last week I built a dual core computer powered by Asus.I used dual core E5200 2.5GH processor with Asus p5kplamps motherboard. I bought all the parts from an retail dealer in my town.
The processor specification was 800MHz FSB,2.5GHz speed etc. Asus P5Kplamps motherboard was capable of inserting Core2 Duo processor. My dream was to buy a Core 2 Duo system, but the processor was costly so I end up with Dual core.
First I inserted the processor into the slot. The slot was having LGA775 packaging. It proved difficult as I was not able to insert the heat sink and fan assembly correctly. After reading the user manual I got a good idea about it. I pressed it down first and turned it 90 degree to lock it.it was the most difficult part of the job, after many trials I managed to get it right.
Then I placed the motherboard in the cabinet made by HYTECH. Connecting the hard disk to the IDE port was easy. After that I connected DVD Drive. Power cables EAtx was new to me. It had a new 12v connector to the smps. Then I screwed the motherboard to the cabinet.
After that I added 2GB memory DDR2. It supported 800MHZ Then I connected the Hard disk power Led connector, Hard disk Led, reset switch and power switch. Monitor(LG TFT), keyboard and mouse was also connected. On board speaker provided by the motherboard manufacturer was also placed in the right place. Audio and graphics with 256MB was built in.
When the power switch was pressed the system did not start. I could not find the problem. Then I called my friend who had experience in assembling.
He said I connected the Power switch wrong. On the motherboard the power switch was marked near the USB connector and I had placed the power connector to the USB connector. The label was quite misleading.
When connected once again it started and booting. I installed Windows XP on that system and it was working and it did the job.
